Greta Gerwig
Gerwig wrote,produced and directed a number films after leaving Sacramento in order to pursue an acting career. However,it was her Academy Award-nominated 2017 film Lady Bird that really put her on the map.
The film does not romanticize teenage cruelty,but instead takes a hard look at it. It shows Lady Bird’s poverty-induced shame as a real thing that hurts her,and her desire to leave Sacramento is not dismissed as the unreasonable dreams of a spoiled child.
Gerwig was cast in a minor role in Swanberg’s LOL in 2006 while she was at Barnard College,and went on to star in several more of his mumblecore films before appearing with Noah Baumbach on Frances Ha (2012).
